Objectives of the study programme
- Acquisition of basic theoretical-methodological, scientific and professional knowledge in the field of German linguistics and language science in general;
- Development of language skills and competencies of students in German as a foreign language up to level C1/C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: language competence reflected in the synthesis of integrated language skills (speaking, reading, listening and writing) with grammar, vocabulary and language use; pragmatic and communicative competence, as well as cultural competence in the broadest sense, are also developed;
- Acquisition of basic theoretical-methodological, scientific and professional knowledge in the field of methodology and didactics of teaching German language and literature, as well as knowledge in the field of pedagogy and psychology that are necessary for the profile of German language teachers in primary and secondary schools; practical knowledge and skills in the field of new media and multimedia systems in education are also acquired;
- Acquisition of basic theoretical-methodological, historical and professional knowledge in the field of German literature – introduction to socio-historical, material and ideological assumptions of literary directions, stylistic and genre structures and specifics of German literature, as well as introduction to various critical-theoretical approaches to literature;
- Acquisition of basic knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of translation, text formatting, correction, proofreading, language editing in different types of texts;
- Acquisition of practical knowledge and skills in the field of culture, new media and multimedia systems in education, translation, public relations, publishing, tourism and economy;
- Acquisition of knowledge and skills in another foreign language (English, French, Russian, Greek) at the B2 level of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- Developing the skills of critical thinking, analytical thinking, synthetic reasoning and active attitude towards oneself and others in the process of education and cooperation with others;
- Developing individual qualities and abilities of students that can contribute to their better professional work in the future.
The outcome of the learning process
After the realization of the study programme, a student
- has acquired basic theoretical-methodological, scientific and professional knowledge in the field of German linguistics and language science in general; the student is acquainted with the basic theoretical and methodological framework of language analysis at all linguistic levels, as well as with more detailed and specific linguistic and applied-linguistic disciplines;
- has acquired skills and knowledge of German as a foreign language at the C1/C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; developed communicative and (inter)cultural competence with the ability to understand and analyse the culture of the German-speaking area and compare it with one's own culture;
- has acquired knowledge and competencies in the field of methodology and didactics of teaching German language and literature, as well as pedagogy and psychology that are necessary for teaching German as a foreign language in primary and secondary schools; the student is able to apply the acquired linguistic, methodological and pedagogical-psychological knowledge and competencies in the preparation of teaching, and in practical work with students; the student is able to use new media and multimedia systems in the process of preparation and performing of modern teaching;
- has a thorough knowledge of the historical development, theoretical and critical trends, genre structure and stylistic specifics of German literature and has the knowledge and skills that allow him to understand, analyse and evaluate literary works;
- has knowledge and skills in another foreign language (English, French, Russian or Greek), at the B2 level of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- has developed the skills of critical thinking, analytical thinking, synthetic reasoning and active attitude towards oneself and others in the process of education and cooperation with others;
- has the ability of self-evaluation and self-reflection, as well as awareness of the need for lifelong intellectual and professional development during professional career in the field of German language, German literature and culture, methodology and didactics of German language teaching;
- is trained for further education through master's and doctoral studies, i.e. for further professional development through specialist studies and projects for professional development in the field of German language, German literature and culture, methodology and didactics of German language teaching.
Admission requirements
Candidates who have completed four years of high school and passed the entrance exam can enrol in the first year of the Bachelor academic studies of German language and literature. The entrance exam involves checking the synthesized knowledge of the German language acquired during previous education. The exam is written and the candidate can win up to 60 points. The ranking of candidates for enrolment is determined on the basis of the general success achieved during high school education (40 points) and the results achieved at the entrance exam (60 points).
Career options
Upon completion of the Bachelor academic studies of German language and literature, the acquired linguistic, communicative and (inter) cultural competences qualify you to perform the job of а
- teacher of German as a foreign language (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) in schools in the country and abroad;
- translator and interpreter for the German language;
as well as for a wide range of occupations
- in cultural institutions (libraries, cultural centres);
- in the publishing industry;
- in diplomatic missions;
- in newsrooms, radio and television newsrooms;
- in the field of marketing;
- in the field of tourism, etc.
